Hallgrímskirkja – Reykjavík, Iceland

I think this is a really unusual building … particularly considering it’s a church.  It took an amazing 38 years to complete and was named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson (author of the Passion Hymns).  The architect Guðjón Samúelsson’s designed the church in 1937 and created it to represent the  basalt lava flows of Iceland’s landscape.
